    • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
    • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

    Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to ‘the non-compliances and exemptions’ listed below.

    Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

    Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

    PDFs and non-HTML documents

A number of older PDF and non-HTML documents are not accessible in a number of ways, such as missing document structure and missing text alternatives. They may not be fully accessible to screen reader software.

Any new PDFs and non-HTML documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

    Disproportionate burden

    Not applicable.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

    PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or non-HTML documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

    Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

Our accessibility roadmap shows how and when we plan to improve accessibility on this website.

    Now

The www.hastings.gov.uk website is fully tested against A, AA, AAA, ARIA authoring, and accessibility best practices every five days. The tests are carried out by Siteimprove. We aim to implement any A, AA, ARIA authoring, and accessibility best practices that are identified within five days.

We are carrying out an accessibility audit for all PDFs and non-HTML documents.

    Next

We will improve the accessibility of PDFs and non-HTML documents identified by the accessibility audit.
