Help from East Sussex Energy Partnership

Hastings Borough Council, Eastbourne Borough Council, Wealden District Council and Rother District Council have joined forces to provide grants to households across East Sussex.  The Government has made the funding available through its commitment to help reduce the UK's energy usage, combat global warming and help vulnerable households to meet rising energy costs.

The partnership can offer help getting free insulation.

If you're over 60, claiming working tax credits with children under 16, disabled or suffering from a chronic illness then you may be eligible.  We can help you access the Warm Front grant fund and a generous discount scheme is still available to those not eligible for free insulation.

Help with Renewable Energy Systems

A Solar panel
Solar Thermal Panels are one of the technologies we can give support financially

This is a scheme is for owner-occupiers in Council Tax Bands A, B, C and D to install renewable energy systems which reduce CO2 emissions and our dependence on fossil fuels.  Your home must have an approximately South-facing room or wall that isn't overshadowed by taller buildings or trees (our installers will assess your home for suitablility).  Costs vary with the size of system needed, type of roof, existing hot water system, location of property.  The main systems that can exploit this natural energy are:

The systems we can help you with

Wood pellets
Pellet boilers are proving increasingly popular

Solar Thermal Panels

These use energy from the sun to provide up to 70% of your hot water.  Costs start at around £3,000.

Solar PV (Photo Voltaic) panels

These use energy from the sun to create electricity to run appliances and lighting.  PV requires daylight not direct sunlight so can generate some power on a cloudy day.  Prices vary depending on the size of the system to be installed but costs start at around £4,000.

Biomass technologies

Wood boilers and stoves can provide heating and hot water and central heating via radiators.  Modern wood pellet boilers can be controlled in a similar way to conventional boilers.

Ground Source and Air Source Heat Pumps

Take warmth from the ground or air and pump it into a building to heat your home, can even be used to cool buildings in hot weather.  Useful for properties that are not connected to a gas supply Planning permission, suitability and eligbility.

Amount of financial help available

We can give you up to £15,000 to help with the cost of installing renewable energy technology.  This is repayable on the sale of your property.  We'll determine the amount of assistance by a means test so you will need to give us information about your income and savings.

Applicants in receipt of benefits such as income-based Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support, Guaranteed Credit, Council Tax benefit, Working Tax Credit with an income below £15,050 will be eligible without the need for a full means test.

Planning permission, suitability and eligibility

Check with our Development Control team to see if you need planning permission.  It can depend on where you live and the size of the installation.

Renewable energy could be suitable for you if you are a homeowner, live in a house or bungalow, are in Council Tax Bands A, B, C and D and have a South-facing wall or room that isn't overlooked by trees of other buildings.
