Council Tax is usually paid by monthly instalments. Details of the instalments due are shown on your bill. However, if you prefer, you can pay the whole amount outstanding in one lump sum. If you choose to do so, your payment should be made within 14 days of receiving your bill.
Some people like to pay their annual bill 'half-yearly' in two instalments. This is acceptable, but two payments must be made by 1 April and 1 September.

Setting up a Direct Debit is one of the most popular ways to pay your bill, it means no more waiting in queues, writing cheques or worrying about finding the time to pay your bill.
Paying your bill by Direct Debit is easy, safe and once you've set it up you don't have to worry - your bank or building society will do the rest. Direct Debit is the most cost effective way to pay, which means we can provide better services and facilities for local people.
We can offer our residents the choice of paying their Council Tax on the 1st, 15th or 23rd of the month by Direct Debit only. The choice is yours!
If you want to pay by Direct Debit you can sign up over the phone on 01424 451081 and choose option 1 or download the direct debit form, complete it and send it back to us.

If you are a Business Rates payer, you can also choose your Direct Debit payment date. Visit our Business Rates area for information and to download the Direct Debit form.

You can now pay your Council Tax through BillPay using your Debit Card (Switch and Visa Delta).
If you wish to use this service, please follow the online registration process. Please note that you will need to quote your Council Tax reference number which is shown on your Council Tax bill.

It is important that you do this as soon as you start to experience problems with meeting your payments. This is because you might be able to get Council Tax Benefit and any entitlement to this starts from the date you apply - it cannot normally be backdated.

Please remember that your bill assumes that your circumstances will remain the same for the whole of the financial year up to the end of March. Therefore, if you move, please let us know your new address. Similarly, if your bill shows that you are getting a discount, you must write to us within 21 days if you are no longer entitled to receive it. This would happen if you stop living on your own, or if a member of your household is no longer eligible to be disregarded when calculating your bill. The opening hours and address of Hastings Local Taxation Services are given below and on your bill. If possible, please quote the account reference number shown on the front of your bill when you call or write to us.
